What is FAVORS?

• An interactive large-scale contemporary art project that invites participants to play a role in creating the piece by doing favors and documenting them through social or traditional media (e.g., facebook, twitter, instagram, postcards).
• A challenge to the people of Queens - and beyond - to disprove the stereotype of the self-centered, cut-throat New Yorker by doing favors for friends, family and strangers.
• A sculptural installation consisting of paper spirals hung in space each inscribed with a favor someone did in conjunction with the project. The installation will include readings and a panel discussion about the role of doing favors in different cultures. The installation will be at Space Gallery in Long Island City, NYC from November 6 - 23, 2013. For more details see the events page.
• An opportunity for dialogue about the many meanings of favors including psychological, societal, political, etc.
• A different way of thinking about one’s friends, family, and strangers.
• A way to spread goodwill on a massive scale.
• A good reason to do someone a favor!

FAVORS is made possible in part by the Queens Council on the Arts with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
